Just do it

A month after brain surgery and seven days into radiation/chemotherapy, Laurie led a group of us up and down Flinders Peak at a cracking pace. Its great to see someone grab life against all odds and just do it .... get the best out of life.

Its much easier to stay on the couch or in front of the computer .... but life is outside. Although we may not be able to ride in the le Tour, there is so much else we can do.

Laurie ... a local legend.

Mawson's Hut, Snowy Mtns

Nearly 20 years ago I skied to the summit of Mt Jagungal for the first time. This photo was taken at sunset on that day, looking from Mawson's Hut to Mt Jagungal on the distant horizon.

The hut is almost covered by snow, however the photo below shows it in autumn of 1986 where I slept out to view Halley's comet at about 3am in the night sky. Great memories of terrific trips in the Snowy Mtns.

Noosa Enduro vs The Simpson Desert

(photo: Russell Worthington)

After riding the Noosa Enduro 50k hard & hilly course yesterday in a little over 4hrs with little training, I was feeling pretty happy with my effort.

After reading that Russ has just cycled into Birdsville racing a dust storm to get there on his massive 7,500k ride through 10 deserts unsupported .... I feel that I am just not in the same league as Russ. ( not that I ever thought I was) It is great to see people following their dreams and conquering challenges whatever they may be.

Have a look at Russ's site for more info the this amazing journey. You can find it here.

Ruined

(click on image for larger view)

We paddled back into history today by going to St Helena Island in Moreton Bay. It was the site of a penal colony from about 1867 and ran for over 60 years. Those prisoners who died on the island were buried there with their grave marked by a stone cross with no names ... just numbers.

In the distance can be seen the remains of the buildings which are now an historical site.

A secret channel on the way to prison.

Winter paddling

With off-shore winds and sunny skies, locations not normally reached in summer can be paddled with ease. Beautiful one day, perfect the next.

It could be a tropical island.

Roller coaster.

Sometimes you have to take time out to ride the roller coaster.
