Ruined

(click on image for larger view)

We paddled back into history today by going to St Helena Island in Moreton Bay. It was the site of a penal colony from about 1867 and ran for over 60 years. Those prisoners who died on the island were buried there with their grave marked by a stone cross with no names ... just numbers.

In the distance can be seen the remains of the buildings which are now an historical site.

A secret channel on the way to prison.
